Eagles Outplay V-Hawks at the Plate

Elgin, Ill. – The Viterbo University baseball fell in a conference matchup with Judson University 3-1 in the series. The V-Hawks fall to 13-9 (CCAC 8-4), while the Eagles rise to 13-10 (CCAC 5-1).

Viterbo 5, Judson 7

The V-Hawks took an early lead but the Eagles responded with three runs to tie it up in the bottom of the inning. In hopes of regaining the lead the V-Hawks scored on a fielders choice but fell short.

Brandon Jaenke pitching five innings on the mound would take the loss with four strikeouts, eleven hits, and seven runs. In relief Bryant Koenig would finish out the game with one strikeout.

At the plate Brett Stuessel would lead in RBIs with two and a double, Esteban Sanchez would follow with an RBI and a double of his own.

Viterbo 6, Judson 3

Scoring five runs in the top of the first inning the V-Hawks would fight to keep the lead position sealing the win with a run in the seventh off a single by Xavier Gilmore.

On the mound for the win, Anthony Sanchez would pitch seven innings with five strikeouts, and two runs over eight hits. Pitching an inning each in relief Jomar Guzman and Nolan Hines would finish out the game.

Cody Wells would lead in game two with a double and two RBIs, while Gilmore would take three RBIs and Sanchez would grab an RBI and a double.

Viterbo 1, Judson 9

Stuessel opened the game with a home run though the V-Hawks would slowly lose the lead with consistent hits from the Eagles, for their sealed win.

In five innings Jake Ouweneel would strikeout four batters and let up eight runs over nine hits for the loss. Nick Colker coming in relief would pitch the remaining inning letting up an additional two hits and a run.

Stuessel would lead with the homer and an RBI as the sole run of the game.

Viterbo 2, Judson 9

The Eagles gaining a lead in the bottom of the first would set the tone for the Eagles until the sixth inning when the V-Hawks would swoop in for a pair of runs.

Cale Beckman took to the mound for the first three innings, with a single strikeout and eight runs taking the loss. Relieving for four innings Adam Olson would let off three hits and a single run with two strikeouts.

At the plate Gilmore would bomb for a double while Dane Mediger would claim two RBIs.

The V-Hawks return to action Tuesday, March 25 for a single game at Waldorf.
