KANSAS CITY. Kans. – The Viterbo University baseball team placed a four-game series with Waldorf University splitting on the weekend. The V-Hawks sit at 4-4.
Viterbo 3, Waldorf 4
Viterbo opened the game strong with a run, keeping ahead in the top of the fifth. Waldorf coming back from behind would score two runs in the bottom of the fifth then take the lead in the seventh.
Brandon Jaenke starting on the mound would pitch five innings giving up five hits, two runs, and six strikeouts before Jomar Guzman would come in relief for one inning. Kyle Burns taking the loss would allow the final run.
At the plate, Xavier Gilmore would hit a double claiming an RBI, Roberto Echavarria also with the double and Dane Mediger with an RBI.
Viterbo 16, Waldorf 12
Waldorf looked to head into a sweep to open the series, scoring four runs in the first before Viterbo answered with five in the second to never relinquish the lead.
Anthony Sanchez claimed the win over five innings pitched allowing 10 hits, and eight runs, striking out 12 batters, Nolan Hines ending the game in relief with four strikeouts.
Gavin Daniel at the plate would hit a double and a triple for two RBIs, Gilmore smacked two doubles, Luisangel Reyes and Matthew Monaghan also would doubles. Cody Lozano leading with four RBIs, Brett Stuessel with three, Monaghan and Spencer with two a piece, and Reyes with one as well.
Viterbo 10, Waldorf 6
Jake Ouweneel with the lose from starting on the mound let up eight hits and six runs, striking out four batters, Adam Olson in relief would pitch three innings letting up an additional three runs, before Bryant Koenig would finish the game with three strikeouts.
At the plate, Echevarria and Kyle Sontag would each hit doubles, Sontag with an RBI, followed by Daniel and Carson Reinhardt.
Viterbo 5, Waldorf 6
Viterbo opening scoring in the bottom of the fourth before Waldorf would respond with three runs in the fifth. The V-Hawks rallying to claim the win in the bottom of the seventh with seven runs.
On the mound Hines would take the win in relief, allowing two hits and two runs, Burns taking the save over one inning pitched allowing one hit.
Cody Wells with a home run and two RBIs would lead the V-Hawks, Reinhardt behind with two RBIs, Brett Stuessel with a double and an RBI, followed by Daniel on a double, and Hans with an RBI.
The V-Hawks return to action Friday, march 7 at Trinity Christian for a four game series.
