Rangers Outlast V-Hawks in High-Scoring Affair

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Viterbo University Baseball team battled NCAA Division II UW-Parkside on Tuesday afternoon, falling 12-14 in a high scoring matchup. The V-Hawks fall to 1-23 while the Rangers improve to 7-7.

Parkside took the first lead of the game following a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. Camden Smith responded with an RBI in the top of the second, but the Rangers also added one in the bottom. The third inning was the only one in the game with no runs scored. Blake Warner's double in the top of the fourth brought in two runs, tying the game, but Parkside took the lead back with a sacrifice fly in the bottom. A two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth extended their lead, and that was followed Gavin Daniel scoring on a throwing error in the sixth. UWP matched that with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame. Warner and Cody Wells each posted solo home runs in the top of the seventh, and Warner followed that with a two RBI single in the eighth to give Viterbo their first lead of the game. However, the Rangers had a huge eighth inning, scoring seven runs on four hits and a V-Hawk error. Viterbo did not give up, as Chance Claman homered to right field, Smith's double scored Daniel, and Smith and Cody Lozano reached home on an error. However, the rally fell short, 12-14.

Warner led the V-Hawks, going 3-of-5 with five RBIs and a run scored, and Smith, Daniel, and Spencer Hans each had two hits. Eight different Rangers recorded a hit. Anthony Sanchez recorded the loss, being one of nine pitchers for the V-Hawks.

Viterbo returns to action on Friday, March 15 as they host their home and conference opener against Dickinson State (ND).
