Pirates Take Two Games from V-Hawks

PARKVILLE, Mo. - The Viterbo University Baseball team fell in both games of a doubleheader to Park University (Mo.) on Saturday, 7-6 and 1-5. The V-Hawks now sit at 1-12, while the Pirates improve to 6-0.

After a quiet first inning, the Pirates had a huge second inning, scoring five runs on five hits. The V-Hawks got on the board in the third with a Cody Wells sacrifice fly to score Nathan Faust, then added two more in the fourth with a two-RBI single from Wells. Bale Warner added one more in the fifth with a solo homerun, but Park matched it in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double. VU stayed hot in the sixth as Ryan Mesa reached home, and Warner brought in Gavin Daniel to tie the game at 6-6. However, the Pirates would take the game with solo homer in the bottom of the seventh.

Warner led the V-Hawsk on 2-of-2 batting with two RBIs and two walks, while Wells had three RBIs. Cody Lozano also went 2-of-2. Billy Rivera had two hits and two RBIs for Park.

Brandon Jaenke recorded five strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Cale Beckman recorded the loss. Bryce Perdieu earned the win.

Park started the second game with a run in each of the first two innings, while Viterbo scored heir first in the third, a Warner RBI double that brought in Marcus Hornacek. Both teams had a single hit in the fourth and fifth, and in the sixth the Pirates scored three more runs. Hornacek singled in the seventh, but Viterbo was unable to rally.

Hornacek went 2-of-3 at the plate for the V-Hawks, while Well, Warner, Hunter Hess, and Kyle Sontang all recorded hits. Two Pirates earned multiple hits.

Jake Ouweneel (L, 0-3) had six K's, while Raul Garcia (W, 2-0) earned eight.

Viterbo and Park complete their series with two more games on Sunday.
