V-Hawks End Season with Loss to Valley City State

DICKINSON, ND - The #6 Viterbo University Baseball team fell 1-11 to the #7 Valley City State University in the second round of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Conference Tournament on Saturday. The V-Hawks end the season 15-31 while the Vikings move to 13-33.

Valley City took the lead in the top of the first with a triple to right field by Shane Nixon allowing two runners to score. Nixon stole home to lead 0-3 going into the bottom of the first. The V-Hawks retired the first three Vikings in the top of the second but Valley City remained in the lead going into the third. Jaden Babiuk managed to score on a passed ball for the Vikings followed by a triple and two RBIs by Zach Veneman leading 0-6 going into the fourth inning. V-Hawk Frankie McGuire reached first on a fielders choice and sent Spencer Hans home to put their first point on the board. Both teams remained scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings before a double followed by a single to right field helped Valley City to stretch their lead 1-10 heading into the ninth. The Vikings added another point on the board before retiring Viterbo's first three batters ending the game with a final score of 1-11.

Freshman Ryder Mortensen went 2 for 3 at the plate. Pitcher Cale Beckman recorded the loss pitching 3 innings allowing 5 hits. Hunter Magnuson recorded the win for the Vikings pitching 8 innings, allowing 6 hits, and striking out 8 batters.

Head Coach Brian Lewis finishes his 7th season with the V-Hawks.
