V-Hawks Sweep Saints

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University V-Hawks hosted the Presentation College Saints in a doubleheader on Sunday. The V-Hawks swept the Saints with a score of 17-7 in game one and 8-5 in game two. Viterbo rises to 13-27 overall (10-14 NSAA) while Presentation remains winless on the season with an overall record of 0-38 (0-24 NSAA).

The V-Hawks started game one strong retiring the Saints first three hitters. Blake Warner and Spencer Hans each recorded an RBI to start the bottom of the first. A single to left field by Conley O'Keefe helped Remy Stern to score. A hit by pitch and two walks allowed the V-Hawks to continue to score going into the second inning leading 6-0. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning before Viterbo stretched their lead to 8-0 in the third inning with two RBIs by Marcus Hornacek. A passed ball allowed the Saints to put their first point on the board in the fourth inning and adding another in the fifth. The Saints closed the gap in the top of the sixth adding four more runs with two RBIs by Matthew Womack. The V-Hawks answered back with RBIs by Chad Herrera, Hornacek, and Kendal Hofer going into inning seven, 15-7. Viterbo was able to hold the Saints to seven before two more RBIs by Herrera ended the game in the eighth inning, 17-7.

Hornacek recorded 5 RBIs and 3 walks. Herrera went 3 for 5 at the plate with 5 RBIs. Dominic LeBlanc recorded the win pitching a total of 5 innings and striking out 4 batters. Oliver Lewis recorded the loss pitching 0.2 innings allowing 3 hits and 4 walks.

Game two started off with the Saints scoring three runs off of a double RBI by Kolby Wagatsuma and a sacrifice fly by Ethan Leech. Viterbo answered back scoring three runs with Hofer, Hornacek, and Ryder Mortensen each recording RBIs tieing the game 3-3. Both teams went scoreless in the second and third innings before a double RBI by Gavin Daniel helped Viterbo take the lead 6-3. The Saints managed to score another point in the fifth with an RBI by Wagatsuma. Viterbo stretched their lead in the sixth with RBIs by Hofer and Daniel. Presentation put up one more point in the seventh inning ending game two, 8-5.

Daniel went 4 for 4 at the plate with 3 RBIs and two stolen bases. Hofer went 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Anthony Sanchez recorded the win pitching a total of 5 innings with 7 strikeouts. Brandon Jaenke recorded the save with 4 strikeouts. Peyton Rees recorded the loss pitching 2 innings allowing 5 hits and 3 walks.

Viterbo will stay at home to take on the Waldorf University Warriors in a conference doubleheader on Friday, April 28 at 1:00 and 4:00 PM CST.
