Pitching Attack Helps V-Hawks Claim Victory at Mount Mercy

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Viterbo University Baseball team bested Mount Mercy University (Iowa) in a single game on Wednesday afternoon, 4-3. The V-Hawks improve to 9-27, while the Mustangs drop to 25-15.

After three scoreless innings to start the game, Mount Mercy would get onto the board with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. The V-Hawks responded in the top of the fifth with a two-RBI single by Kendal Hofer, bringing in Chad Herrera and Hunter Hess. The Mustangs took the lead again by scoring on a V-Hawk error in the bottom of the frame. Spencer Hans scored in the top of the sixth on a Hess RBI to even the score, and take the lead in the eighth with Hans scoring again on a Conley O'Keefe RBI. Brandon Jaenke came in to pitch, retiring three straight batters, and Anthony Sanchez would earn his second save of the season in the ninth.

Hofer had a pair of RBI's, while Herrera was the only V-Hawk with multiple hits. Tucker Cole had two RBIs for Mount Mercy. Nine V-Hawks took the mound, with Dominic LeBlanc (3-2) earning the win, and TJ Fleita recorded the loss.

Viterbo returns to action Saturday, April 22 as they host Presentation College (SD) in a four game series.
