Homers by Hofer, Hess, Hans, and Brooks Lead to a Pair of Wins

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Baseball team claimed victory over Dickinson State University (ND) in both games of their North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) double header on Sunday. Viterbo won the first game 6-4, and the second game 8-3. The V-Haws improve to 5-18 (3-5 NSAA), and the Blue Hawks fall to 12-15 (4-4 NSAA).

Viterbo would begin the day with a Frankie McGuire RBI-walk that brought in Kendal Hofer, but the Blue Hawks would respond with two runs in the bottom of the second with a pair of solo home runs. After three scoreless innings, DSU would add two more runs in the sixth with another home run and a sacrifice fly. Spencer Hans would get the V-Hawks back on the board with a two run homer in the top of the seventh, and Ryan Brooks two-RBI home run gave the V-Hawks the lead again. An error by Dickinson brought in another run for the V-Hawks, cementing their 6-4 win.

Hans, McGuire, and Brooks each had a hit and two RBI's to lead the V-Hawks, while Balas Buckmaster went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Dickinson. Adam Olson (W, 1-0) earned his first win of the season with three strikeouts, and Brandon Jaenke recorded his first save. Trent Richter (1-3) recorded the loss.

Viterbo would be the first team on the board again in the late game, with a Gavin Daniel triple that scored Camden Smith, and a Hofer single to bring in Daniel. DSU would score three in the bottom of the fourth, but Hunter Hess' three run home run in the fifth gave Viterbo the lead again, and Hofer would do the same in the sixth to put the V-Hawks up 8-3 and give VU the win.

Hofer led the offense by going 2-for-3 with four RBI's, and Hess would add three RBI's of his own. Dawson Cortese led the Blue Hawks, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Alec Danen (W, 1-2) had six RBI's in three innings, and Kobe Krenz had
