V-Hawks score double-digits in non-conference road win

MT. PLEASANT, Iowa – The Viterbo University Baseball team traveled to Iowa today to face the Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan University in a non-conference game. The V-Hawks made the most of the single-game, winning 10-5.

Viterbo fell behind early after a second inning home run by the Tigers, but the V-Hawks answered right away with a run of their own in the top of the third. After a quiet fourth, the V-Hawks scored in the next three innings to take a 9-3 lead into the eighth inning. Iowa Wesleyan hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the eighth, but the V-Hawks scored one more insurance run in the top of the ninth before sealing the 10-5 win.

Kendal Hofer went 2-6 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored on the day to lead the V-Hawk offense. Cole Benson contributed three hits in five at-bats with one RBI and one run scored. Marcus Hornacek and Conley O'Keefe also contributed two RBIs a piece. Cale Beckman had a solid performance on the mound, going six innings while giving up three earned runs on six hits and two walks.

The Viterbo Baseball team will make their home debut of the spring on Saturday as they are set to face the Dakota State University Trojans. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM CDT with game two to follow. Catch the action on our website or by following us on social media.
