V-Hawk bats stymied at Dickinson State in four-game series

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Viterbo University Baseball team was on the road this weekend after poor weather and field conditions forced the V-Hawks to pack their bags and switch from a home series against the Blue Hawks to an away series.

Offensively, the V-Hawks could not get the bats rolling against the strong arms of Dickinson State. Kendal Hofer collected four hits in 13 at bats, drawing one walk through the four-game series. In game three, Zach Braun drove in two of the V-Hawks three runs on a line drive to left field. The V-Hawks last run came in the same inning off of a sacrifice fly from Myles Zimdars.

Defensively, errors leading to runs burned the V-Hawks all weekend. Ben Strassman had a strong start for Viterbo in game one on Monday, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts. Cale Beckman and Brandon Jaenke also had strong outings in relief for the V-Hawks. Beckman pitched one inning with no hits, no runs, and one strikeout; while Jaenke pitched one inning with one hit, no runs, and four strikeouts after a dropped third strike extended the inning.

The V-Hawks will be on the road again this weekend as they are set to play Valley City State University. First pitch is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 PM CDT with game two to follow. On Sunday, the action is set to begin at 12:00 PM CDT with game two to follow. Catch the action on our website or by following us on social media.
