By Katie Frohmader, Athletics Communications Intern

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Viterbo University Baseball team (10-17) went 1-3 in their weekend series against the Dickinson State Blue Hawks (9-17). The V-Hawks dropped the first two games of the series, 9-12 and 0-9, before going 1-1 in the last two games, 11-10 and 3-6.

In game one the V-Hawks got out to a 7-3 lead through the first six innings. The Blue Hawks were able to score two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to tie the game late. Viterbo was able to answer with two runs of their own in the ninth, but Dickinson kept their momentum and scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. Cole Benson (SR/Hastings, Minn.) went 3-5 with three RBIs and a run scored.

The V-Hawks' bats went cold in game two as Dickinson was able to hold Viterbo to only two singles. Nolan Glunz (SR/Woodbury, Minn.) reached base twice for Viterbo with a single and a walk.

The V-Hawks got out to a slow start in game three, starting down 0-3 after two innings. Viterbo was able to score multiple runs in back-to-back innings to take the lead 6-3 after four innings. The V-Hawks scored four more runs in the sixth inning, capped off with a two-run homer by Remy Stern (SO) on a pinch hit. The Blue Hawks made it interesting at the end of the game, scoring in the final three innings, but it was not enough to overcome the V-Hawks. Cole Benson and Jake Kleszczynski (SR/Thornton, Colo.) combined for seven hits, seven RBIs, and three runs scored.

Viterbo score a run right out of the gates in the final game of the series, but Dickinson State quickly answered, scoring six unanswered runs through the first five innings. The V-Hawks were able to score two runs on two hits in the top of the ninth, but it was not enough to top the Blue Hawks.
