Andresen and Costello Shine in Series Split With Jimmies

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Just one week ago, the Viterbo University baseball team grabbed a win over a top-10 NAIA team and with a trip to North Dakota on Sunday and Monday, the V-Hawks had their sights on another big win. Viterbo won the opening game of both doubleheaders against No. 9 University of Jamestown as they spilt their four-game series with the Jimmies.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Colton Andresen (JR/Genoa City, Wis.) took the hill in game one and allowed just one runner through the first three innings before Jamestown pushed across an unearned run in the fourth.

-Viterbo responded with an unearned run of their own in the fifth but the Jimmies retook the lead in the bottom half.

-In the eighth, Brandon Alvarez (SR/Indio, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Dylan Bjork (SO/Stockholm, Wis.) which tied the game and pushed it to extra innings.

-The V-Hawks rattled off four runs in the extra-frame and D.J. Raasch (JR/Princeton, Wis.) had a chance to pick up his second win of the year in relief. Jamestown plated two runs but Raasch held on for the victory as he got Elias Sablan to lineout as the V-Hawks held on for a 6-4 extra-inning win.

-In game two of Sunday's doubleheader, the V-Hawks could only muster one run as they fell 5-1 to Jamestown's Brad Bennett who pitched all seven innings allowing just five hits.

-Game one on Monday was delayed a bit but the V-Hawks' bats were not. Viterbo scored five runs in the first two innings to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

-That was all John Costello (SO/Camp Douglas, Wis.) would need for run support as he cruised through the Jimmies' order. The sophomore tossed six innings allowing just one earned run on two hits.

-After a run in the fifth, Mannie De La Rosa (JR/Bellflower, Calif.) singled in two insurance runs while Jon Grana (SR/Downey, Calif.) shut the door in the seventh for the win.

-In the nightcap, the V-Hawks struggled against Jamestown's Dylan Deavy who allowed just one hit and struck out seven.

-Brian McGill (FR/Brooklyn Park, Minn.) earned the start for Viterbo, and struck out two while giving up four earned runs in 4.1 innings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

-Angel Ramos (SR/Huntington Park, Calif.) continued to stay hot at the plate, going 5-for-14 (.357) in the series with a pair of runs scored.

-Alvarez brought in three runs as he finished with four hits in 12 at-bats. The senior also scored a pair of runs and drew three walks.

-Mark Strazzeri (SR/Northridge, Calif.) and Adam Lowe (FR/Reynoldsburg, Ohio) also picked up four hits for the V-Hawks. Sam Bachmeier (SO/Eau Claire, Wis.) started all four games this weekend and finished with three hits including a double.

-Andresen lowered his season earned run average to 4.91 after his performance against the Jimmies in game one. Andresen struck out three and allowed just one earned run in 7.1 innings.

-Costello earned his second win of the year on Monday after pitching six innings with just one earned run allowed.
