Viterbo Athletics Hosts Honors Banquet

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University hosted its 2023 Athletics Honors Banquet last week. Nealy 200 student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom.

Viterbo honored over 60 athletes that earned NAIA or NBCA Scholar-Athletes, over 60 All-Conference recipients, individual and team national qualifiers, student-athlete leaders, and a Champion of Character from each team.

Viterbo also awarded six V-Hawks with special awards, a male and female Newcomer, Scholar-Athlete, and Senior Athlete of the Year.

Ben Olson of Men's Basketball was named the Male Newcomer of the Year. Olson was second on the team, and seventh in the conference, in scoring at 13.8 PPG, as well as second on the team and eighth in the conference in steals per game at 1.5. He was named to the All-NSAA Second Team, the Freshman of the Year, and the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association DIII Private School Freshman of the Year.

Jada Mitchell of Women's Volleyball was selected as the Female Newcomer of the Year. She was second-team All-America, and North Central and NSAA First-Team, Attacker, and Newcomer of the Year. She led the conference in hitting percentage at .319, recorded 316 kills, and .93 blocks per set.

Jack Monis of Men's Basketball was the Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Psychology major is graduating with a 3.92 GPA.

Rylee Haines of Women's Golf was the Female Senior Scholar-Athlete. She is graduating with her undergraduate degree in Business Administration in three years with a 4.0 GPA, and will earn her MBA next year.

Jalen Anderson of Men's Track and Field was named the Male Athlete of the Year. Anderson holds seven school records over indoor and outdoor track, had been a national qualifier in multiple events, and a conference champion in just as many. He is already set to compete at the NAIA National Outdoor Meet this year as well.

Nyah Brooks of Competitive Dance was selected as the Female Athlete of the Year. Brooks was not only selected as First-Team All-American, but was also named as the NAIA co-Dancer of the Year. The V-Hawks qualified for nationals and finished the year as the number seven team in the country.
