V-Hawks Finish Second at Mississippi River Rumble

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Viterbo University Women's Track and Field team completed at the University of Dubuque (Iowa) Mississippi River Rumble on Saturday. The V-Hawks tied for second place out of seven teams with 125 team points.

The V-Hawks tied with Loras College (Iowa), while Dubuque took first place with 186 points.

Emma Johnson led the V-Hawks with a pair of medal finishes. She took first place in the Pole Vault, clearing 3.55m (11'7.75"), which meets NAIA "B" Standard and qualified her for Outdoor Nationals. She followed that up a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.72.

Her teammate, Olivia Wingo, matched her height in the Pole Vault, also qualifying for the National Meet, and taking second place. Additionally, Wingo took fourth in the High Jump with a mark of 1.60m (5'3").

Emily Ludwig also took home a gold medal, edging out Johnson in the 100 hurdles with a time of 51.20. She also took fourth in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 1:12.60, and seventh in the Pole Vault, clearing 3.20m (10'6").

Lillia Chvatal took second in the Lung Jump with a leap of 5.27m (17'3.5"). She was also a part of the V-Hawks 4x100 meter relay team that took fourth place with a time of 49.35 seconds, along with Claudia Schunk, Braylee Hyatt, and Ashley Veronen. Tori Gerber also secured a silver medal, finishing the 800 in 27.19 seconds, as well as taking seventh in the 1500 with a time of 5:01.82. Pearla Teko-Folly earned the final silver medal for Viterbo with her mark of 10.52m (34'6.25") in the triple jump, while Schunk added a bronze in the 100 meter dash, recording a mark of 12.58 and Hyatt in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.18m (17"0').

Other V-Hawks to score included Hyatt taking fourth in both the 100 (12.65) and 200 (26.77), and Vanessa Thomas taking fourth in the 3,000, finishing in 11:27.19. Grace Peyron was fifth in the long jump at 4.93m (16'2.25"), and eighth in the 200 at 27.19. Kaylee McLeod was just behind her, leaping 4.92m (16'1.75") and finishing sixth. Emily Howell and Lainey Teynor were seventh in the javelin (24.56m, 80'7"), and the 400 hurdles (1:17.82), respectively. Madelyn Kassulke was eighth in the 400 hurdles at 1:17.84, and Hannah Butler was eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:38.22.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 13 at the Luther College (Iowa) Norse Invite.
