Women's Track Competes in First Outdoor Meet of the Year

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Track and Field team started their outdoor season at the UW-Platteville Opener this weekend.

Lana Yeakel earned a pair of gold medals on the day, recording the best mark in the Long Jump, 5.46m (17-11.00) and was a part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team with Claudia Schunk, Ashley Veronen, and Breanna Ihde, finishing in 50..21.

Payton Dryden also captured a first place finish in the Discus Throw, with a toss of 38.31m (125-08) to go with her sixth place finish in the Hammer throw (41.64m, 136-07).

Grace Peyron also earned a podium finish in the Long Jump, leaping 5.28m (17-04.00) to finish second.

Alexie Stephani finished fourth place in the Triple Jump, with a mark of 10.39m (34-01.25).

The V-Hawks had a pair of top-seven finishes in both the Pole Vaul and High Jump, as Emma Johnson and Bailey Nuutinen both vaulted 3.30m (10-10.00) with Johnson finishing fifth and Nuutinen seventh based on attempts. Miranda Kendall was sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.55m (5-01.00) and Veronen was seventh at 1.50m (4-11.00).

On the track, Vanessa Thomas was sixth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:20.74, while Jerica Mueller was seventh in the 800, finishing in 2:36.49.

Ihde recorded the fastest time in the 100-meter dash preliminaries (12.83) but did not compete in the finals.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, March 8 at the UW-La Crosse Ashton May Invitational.
