V-Hawks Finishes Fifth at Mount Mercy Invite

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- The Viterbo University Women's Golf team competed at the Mount Mercy University Invite on April 15. Due to weather, the meet changed from a two-day tournament to a one-day, 27-hole meet. The V-Hawks took 5th out of 8 teams, having a total score of 542 (+110).

Mount Mercy University (A) took home the team title with a score of 462 (+30). Aoi Ito of Mount Mercy University took home the individual title with a total score of 113, just five strokes over par. 

Caylee Beyer was the top golfer for the V-Hawks, tying for 12th out of 45 golfers. She brought in a total score of 130 (+22) while shooting a 91 for the first 18 holes, and then a 39 on her final nine holes. 39 was the best 9-hole score of any V-Hawks on the day. 

Lillia Rather brought in a total score of 135 (+27), placing 22nd which was only five strokes behind Beyer. Her first 18-hole score came to a total of 89 while her third set of nine holes totaled 46. 89 was the best 18-hole score for any of the Viterbo team members for the meet.

Courtney Draeger followed closely behind Rather with a one-stroke difference between the two teammates. Draeger tied for 23rd place with a total score of 136 (+28), with her first 18-hole score adding to 90 while the final set of nine holes totaled 46. 

Rachel Boe kept the ball rolling and kept scores close between teammates. With a total score of 139 (+31), she tied for 26th place. Boe brought in a score of 94 for the first 18 holes of the meet, and she concluded with a 45 for her third set of nine holes. 

Ariel Heuer was the next golfer for Viterbo, who tied for 30th. She brought in a total score of 141 (+33), which split to 94 for the first 18 holes and then a 47 for the last nine holes of the 27-hole meet. 

Gabby Antonelli was the final golfer for the V-Hawks while shooting a total score of 160 (+52). For her first 18 out of 27 holes for the day, she brought in a score of 109 and then shot a 51 for her final nine holes of the meet.

The V-Hawks will be returning to the tee box on Monday, April 29 for the NSAA Championship conference meet hosted by Viterbo at Cedar Creek Golf Club.
