Newbauer set to Compete for Individual National Championship

JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. – The United states Bowling Congress  Intercollegiate Singles Championship begins today, and Viterbo's Emily Newbauer has qualified to complete. Newbauer is one of 24 individuals set to compete for the individual national title.

Newbauer qualified for the Individual Championships following her performance at the Sectional Qualifier in March. She finished fifth out of 219 competitors with a total score of 1,315 over six games. The top eight individuals from the four sections qualified for nationals. Neubauer was 14 pins behind the first place finisher in her sectional. She posted the second highest single game score in the event with 279, and was the bowler of the eight qualifiers to not post a game below 200.

Newbauer is the fourth V-Hawk to ever qualify for the individual competition, joining Andy Mills (2013), Matt Krueger (2012-13), and the first female qualifier since Rachel Schalow (2012).

This year, Newbauer made 6 All-Tournament teams over nine events, including two individual event titles. She was named to the First-Team All-Great Lakes Bowling Conference. She holds the sixth highest average differential among 85 freshman, and 29th overall out of 350 bowlers.
