BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team fell 1-0 on the road at Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in their final regular season game on Saturday night. The V-Hawks fall to 7-5-6 (4-4-3 CCAC) on the year, while the Tiges improve to 10-3-2 (8-1-2 CCAC).
The first shot on goal of the game came in the 15th minute, and after Ernesto Ascenzo saved the attempt, the Tigers took four corner kicks in a row, but nothing to show for it. Another three shots in quick succession for ONU resulted in a save, a block and a miss wide, and Nicolas Lopez's attempt was also blocked before the half.
Lopez started the second with a shot on goal as well, and three more shots by the Tigers were blocked. Elias Nonnenmann put Olivet on the board with a goal at 54:34, assisted by Nick Kilian. Kilian then took three corners, but it only led to one shot, which Ascenzo saved. Lopez took a final shot to end the game, but it hit the post and the Tigers secured the victory.
Manuel Ruiz Merino and Lopez were the only V-Hawks with shot attempts, while the Tigers took 19 as a team. Ascenzo had five saves, while Patrick Dye recorded one.
