Pope Places Second at Clarke Invitational

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Bowling team competed at the Clarke University (Iowa) invite, hosted at Dubuque's Cherry Lane this weekend. The V-Hawks finished eighth out of 12 teams with a total score of 7694.

Iowa Western Community College won the invitational with a team score of 8066, edging out Iowa Central Community College, who scored 8054. Viterbo finished just one behind Grand View University (Iowa) at 7695, and William Penn (Iowa) was just ahead of them at 7806.

Jacob Kraft of Iowa Central CC was the individual champions, scoring 1136 over five games.

Anthony Pope was the top performer for the V-Hawks, finishing second overall with 1099 pins over five games, averaging 220 and a best game of 265. Matt Wejrowski was next for the V-Hawks, scoring 910 over his five games (182 average, high of 205), for 32nd place.

Brandon Fandrich, Austin Calmes, and Mikey Voge each played three games, finishing close to each other, 45th, 51st, and 53rd, respectively. Fandrich averaged 203 with a high of 220, Calmes was at 181, reaching a high of 208, and Voge had a best game of 209 while averaging 179.

Of the V-Hawks that played two games, Erik Ludden placed 59th, with one of the best individual games of the invite at 256, Mason Barsness was 67th with 334 pins, and Calvin Schneider finished 72nd at 325.

The V-Hawks scored 4763 in theier regular games, which was fith best in the competition, then scored 2931 in the baker games, eighth best.

The V-Hawks will travel to Weston, Wis. on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29  for the GLBC Meet #3.
