Men's Basketball gets big win over Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Neb. – The Viterbo Men's Basketball team (10-9) got back on track Friday night with a thrilling 67-63 victory over the Bruins of Bellevue University.

The game was tight all the way through, with the biggest lead for either team in the first 20 minutes coming just before halftime, as Robert Cunitz made a jumper to go up seven with 12 seconds remaining. In half number two, the V-Hawks were able to stretch their lead to nine on a Jack Monis layup with 17:37 remaining. The Bruins did not go away easily, however, and went on a 17-7 run over the next nine minutes to retake the lead with 8:51 remaining. Then it was the V-Hawks' turn to go on a run of their own. After being down 43-42, Viterbo outscored Bellevue 18-5 to build a 12-point advantage, 60-48, with 1:03 remaining in the game. The Bruins made it interesting in the final minute, outscoring the V-Hawks 15-7, but it was not enough to overcome the V-Hawks.

Cunitz led the V-Hawks with 22 points, followed by Brady Polk with 18, and Monis with 14. The Viterbo Men's Basketball team improves to 4-2 in NSAA play and will take on the Dakota State Trojans tonight. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM CST.
