LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team faced off against Grand View University on Saturday at home. The V-Hawks defeated the Vikings, 82-79.
In an exciting game of eight lead changes and three ties, the V-Hawk men started off the game shooting well, converting their first four attempts in a row to go up 8-2 within the first minute and a half of play. Viterbo went into the locker room leading 44-31 at the half.
The V-Hawks' largest lead of the night came at the start of the second half, as Nolan Martin made a layup to put Viterbo up 46-31, leading by 15. Grand View responded with five consecutive points of their own, but Nicholas Malovrh made a three-pointer right after to halt the Viking momentum. Grand View put themselves back in contention with a series of made threes, but foul trouble for the Vikings put the V-Hawks to the free-throw line to put the game away.
Brady Polk made some big shots when it counted, including going 7-8 from the free-throw line. He led the Viterbo offense with 23 points. Robert Cunitz went 3-7 from behind the arc to put up 21 points in the game. Malovrh had a team-high eight rebounds and Polk had a team-high four assists.
The V-Hawks will remain home for a Tuesday, November 9 game against Edgewood College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CST.
