V-Hawks Take Down #15 Bellevue in Regular Season Finale

OMAHA, Neb. – The Viterbo University Baseball team ended their 2023 regular season with a 6-1 win over #15 Bellevue University (Neb.) on Sunday evening. The V-Hawks improve to 11-36 (10-13 NSAA), while the Bruins fall to 36-12 (21-2 NSAA).
The Bruins started the bottom of the second with a lead-off homerun, but the V-Hawks answered in the top of the third as Gavin Daniel scored on a Spencer Hans grounder. VU then took the lead in the fourth on a Chad Herrera RBI that scored Camden Smith, and Kept the momentum going over the next three innings with a Marcus Hornacek RBI single in the fifth, a Herrera run scored on an error, and a two-run Garret Heying homer in the seventh. Bellevue managed only two hits over the final seven innings, and did not manage a run, falling 6-1.
Heying led the way for the V-Hawks, going 4-of-5 with two RBIs. Blake Warner, Hornacek, and Kyle Sontag all added two hits as well. Three Bruins recorded a single hit.
Brandon Jaenke (W, 4-7) earned the win with 11 strikeouts over 8.0 IP. Gavin Wuschke (L, 5-2) recorded the loss.
The V-Hawks earned the #4 seed in the NSAA Conference Tournament, and will take on #5 Waldorf on Friday, May 3 at 6 PM.
