Baseball Adds Two Against the V-Hawks

Lamoni, Iowa. – The Graceland University Baseball team competed in their home opener against the Viterbo University V-Hawks. The Yellowjackets took game one with a score of 7-6 and were victorious 13-9. The Yellowjackets take game one and two of the four game series.

The Scoring – Game 1
B1 – The Yellowjackets would add one from the Elio Narvaez RBI single to score Keith Whitaker (GU: 1 | VU: 0)
T2 – The V-Hawks would get on the board and take the lead by adding two from two RBI singles (GU: 1 | VU: 2)
B2 – Austin Wheeler's hit by pitch would put him in a position to score from the SAC fly by Skyler Harris. Javin Stevenson would cross the plate from the RBI triple drilled by Keith Whitaker. A Zach Tanabe single up the middle would bring in Whitaker (GU: 4 | VU: 2)
B3 – Graceland would score one from the bases loaded. Skyler Harris walk to move Ybrahim Quevedo home (GU: 5 | VU: 2)
T4 – Viterbo would find an RBI single and a home run to score four runs (GU: 5 | VU: 6)
B6 – The Yellowjackets would cap their scoring of the games by adding two runs. Javin Stevenson would steal third and get home off the error by the V-Hawks catcher and by a Zach Tanabe single to leftfield to bring home Keith Whitaker (GU: 7 | VU: 6)

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Izaac Rabelo started the game and went for 4.0 innings; he faced 22 batters. Jorge Diaz stepped in for the win, going 2.0 innings with three strikeouts on six batters and allowing no runs. Stephen Eskridge closed the game, pitching 1.0, facing four batters, allowing no runs and having two strikeouts.

B1 – The Yellowjackets would add five runs. Elio Narvaez would drill a double to left center to score Zach Tanabe and Skyler Harris. Bases loaded, Bryan Paez would move Jacob Lopez home. An Ethan Balogh single would score Darwin Marquez (GU: 5 | VU: 2)
T2 – A Viterbo would add a two-run home run (GU: 5 | VU: 4)
B3 – Skyler Harris would drive a double to right field to push Darwin Marquez and Jacob Lopez home (GU: 7 | VU: 4)
T4 – A fielders Choice would give the Yellowjackets an out, and the V-Hawks would score one (GU: 7 | VU: 5)

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Payne Pfeiffer went 3.0 innings, facing 16 batters. Rafael Severino came in for 2.2 inning, with two strike-outs. Stephen Eskridge came in to close the game going 1.1 innings, facing four batters and allowing no runs. Simon Victoriano would make an appearance at the mound.
