INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Set One (25-8)
The Jimmies began on a 5-0 run and built an 8-2 lead following a kill by Hackley. After the V-Hawks closed the gap to 9-5, UJ took three in a row, including a kill from Steckler and back-to-back Viterbo attack errors. A Jamestown service error gave the V-Hawks their final point of the set to make it 15-8, then a service error by the home team led to nine straight points by the Jimmies and an opening set win.
  • Set Two (25-23)
Viterbo played UJ much closer, not allowing the Jimmies to take more than a three-point lead until Caydann Cox's kill made it 14-10. The V-Hawks rallied to tie the score at 14, then took leads of 17-15, 18-16, and 19-17. Jennings and Myers paired up for three straight combo blocks to make it 20-19, and for good measure, Myers and Hackley put together another block to increase the lead to 21-19. Viterbo put together a three-point run late, but Caydann Cox ended the set with another kill as the Jimmies went ahead 2-0 in the match.
  • Set Three (25-18)
Holding on to a slim 9-8 lead, Jamestown broke the set open with Steckler's kill starting a 7-1 run that forced a Viterbo timeout. Following the stoppage, UJ tacked on three more and eventually stretched the lead to 22-12. The V-Hawks put together one last run to make the score look closer than it was, but a kill by Dylan Malit and a Viterbo attack error sealed the deal for the Jimmies.
