Cougars Softball Dominate the V-Hawks

Fort Wayne, IN. -- the USF Cougars defeated Viterbo University 9-1 on Saturday at Indiana Tech Warrior Park. USF opened the scoring in the first after Lena Viggiano scored after tagging up. The Cougars won thanks in part to five runs in the third inning. Macie Dowd singled, scoring two runs, Anna Smith singled, scoring one run, and Ashlynn Allman doubled, scoring two runs. Dowd collected four hits in four at bats. In first inning Dowd doubled, singled in the third, singled in the fourth inning, and doubled in the sixth inning.

The Cougs surrendered only two hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Lex Huth earned the win for USF and Amanda Bogdonovich took the loss for Viterbo University.

The reliever went three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking none. Grace Elton led things off in the circle for Viterbo University. They surrendered seven hits and six runs over two and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one. Elle Sauder pitched one inning of shutout ball for the USF Cougars in relief. The right-handed pitcher allowed two hits, striking out two, and walking none.

USF tallied 14 hits in the game. Smith, Dani Karr, and Sam Baker each collected multiple hits. The Cougs ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game and did not commit a single error in the field. Madyson Minnich had the most chances in the field with seven. Sydney Haakenson, Logan Neblock,

Bogdonovich, and Megan Jardine each collected one hit for Viterbo University. Haakenson went 1-for-1 at the plate as the left fielder led the team with one run batted in. Marissa Carter-Olson had the most chances in the field with six.

The Cougars are now 1-2 overall as they prepare to head to Florida next week for a string of games.
