
No. 10 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Viterbo at Jamestown Invitational
Jamestown, N.D., (Feb. 8, 2025)- The No. 10 Missouri Valley College men's volleyball team finished play at the Jamestown (N.D.) Invitational with one match Saturday. The Vikings swept Viterbo (Wisc.) by scores of 25-9, 25-14, 25-11.
The opening game started with the two teams trading points through a 6-5 Missouri Valley lead. Freshman Outside Hitter Tymoteusz Zadeberny (Gliwice, Poland) put down two kills and one ace during the stretch of play. The Vikings followed with a long run, winning eight-straight points. Freshman Setter Matheus Curi (Ribeirão Preto, Brazil), Junior Opposite Luca Hasse (Paderborn, Germany), Freshman Outside Hitter Guilherme Lorenzini (Florianopolis, Brazil) and Senior Middle Blocker Arthur Martenelli (Curitiba, Brazil) each had one kill, while Curi and Martenelli teamed up on a block, and Senior Libero Ruben Baquero (Madrid, Spain) placed an ace to make it a 15-5 score. Missouri Valley won six of seven points later in the game, as Lorenzini and Hasse each put down two kills, and Curi added an ace to set the advantage to 21-7. Hasse added another kill late in the game, and Missouri Valley finished out a 25-9 win. The Vikings hit at a .583 percentage, while Viterbo was limited to a .000 hitting percentage.
In game two, the Vikings finished out a 25-14 win, hitting at a .409 percentage in the game. Looking for a sweep in the third game, Missouri Valley closed out by limiting Viterbo to a -.056 percentage to earn a 25-11 win the game, and a victory in the match, 3-0.
Hasse led with 11 kills, on a .529 hitting percentage, while Martenelli totaled eight kills and a perfect hitting percentage on eight total attempts. Lorenzini had eight kills and a .353 hitting percentage. Curi led with 26 assists, and Zadeberny had a team-high with 10 digs and five aces. Missouri Valley finished with 12 total aces and three blocks, hitting at a .457 percentage.
The win moves Missouri Valley to 4-0 on the season, while Viterbo drops to 1-6.
Up next, the Viking men's volleyball team will open play in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, traveling to St. Louis, Mo., to play No. 11 Missouri Baptist. The game is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
