Eagles Split On Last Day in Tucson

Eagles Split On Last Day in Tucson

Embry-Riddle opened the day with a 7-0 win over William Penn before losing their second game of the day 5-2 to Viterbo at Lincoln Park in Tucson on Sunday.

Game 1

ERAU scored twice in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take the early lead.  Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawaii) reached first on an error and advanced to second on a sac by Emma Almodoba (Tucson, Ariz.).  Camille Graham (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) walked to put runners on first and second base.  After another error by the defense, Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was able to reach and Sulusi scored.  Maddie Judge (Oro Valley, Ariz.) then singled to left field to plate Graham and give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Embry-Riddle added three runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning as Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.) singled to left field.  The next batter Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) also singled and both runners moved up an extra base.  Almodoba singled in Miranda Montano and then and single by Tatum Chestnut (Peoria, Ariz.) scored both Almodoba and Delaney.

Neither team scored again until the Eagles added some insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Delaney started with a walk followed by a triple from pinch hitter Jaden Espinoza (Tucson, Ariz.) to make it 6-0 Embry-Riddle.  Espinoza scored on a defensive mistake and ERAU went on to win 7-0.

ERAU starting pitcher Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) struck out 11 batters in the win.

Game 2

Embry-Riddle scored right away in the top of the 1st inning as Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.) scored on a single by Delaney but the V-Hawks answered right away in the bottom of the inning with two runs.

The Eagles could only muster up one more run and it came in the top of the 4th inning.  Delaney started the inning with a triple followed by a single to Sulusi to bring ERAU back within a run at 3-2, but Embry-Riddle was unable to get anything else going.

Embry-Riddle will resume Cal Pac play on Friday as the RedHawks from Simpson University make the trip to Prescott.
