V-Hawks Finish Second at Conference Meet

DICKINSON, ND – The Viterbo University Women's Track and Field team finished second place at the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Outdoor Conference Meet on Friday. The V-Hawks scored 180 points, their second highest total at the conference meet in school history. 

Host Dickinson State University (ND) took first place with 300 points.

The top eighth finishers in each event score points, and the top three finishers in individual events, and top two in relays are named All-Conference.

Breanna Ihde led the way for the V-Hawks with first place finishes in the 100 meter (12.09), and the 200 (25.09). She was also a part of the 4x100 relay team with Claudia Schunk, Lana Yeakel, and Ashley Veronen that earned the conference title, and the second-place 4x400 team with Schunk, Tess Durscher, and Lainey Teynor. The 4x100 team's time of 48.03 set a new conference record. 

Ihde's total of 28.5 points was the second highest individual total at the meet. 

Anya Hirsch claimed a pair of All-Conference nods with a second place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase (12:10.20) and third place in the 5000 with a time of 19:40.07. She also took third in the 4x800 relay as the team of her, Tori Gerber, Vanessa Thomas, and Jerica Mueller finished in 10:01.47, which set a new school record. 

Yeakel earned a silver medal in the long jump with a leap of 5.63m, setting a new school record and missing the national qualifying standard by 2 cm. She was just behind her teammate taking third in both the 100 meter (12.15) and the 200 (25.60).

Durscher was the final V-Hawk to claim an All-Conference honor, taking third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.76.

Two more V-Hawks scored in the 100-meter, as Schunk too fifth (12.67) and Emily Howell was eighth (12.94). Schunk also took fourth in the 200 with a time of 25.64.

Tori Gerber was seventh in the 800, finishing in 2:31.47, and Madelyn Kassulke was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles. Just ahead of her was her teammate Teynor, taking sixth at 115.72. Bernadetter Frisch and Megan Scheuer each scored in the steeplechase, taking fifth (13:44.30) and seventh (14:57.60) respectively. A trio of high jumpers from Viterbo would score, with Miranda Kendall and Alexie Stephani each clearing 1.50m, and Grace Peyron clearing 1.40m.Kendall took fourth over Stephani in fifth based on attempts. Peyron was sixth. Peyron would take fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.41m and Stephani in sixth at 4.94m. Payton Dryden was the final V-Hawk to score, finishing fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 37.42m.
