V-Hawks Continue Revenge Tour, Defeat Holy Cross
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks hosted the Saints of Holy Cross on Saturday in the R.W. Beggs, Sr. Gymnasium. Through four quarters of play, the V-Hawks came out with another CCAC victory, marking the most conference wins in recorded history. With the win, the V-Hawks improve to 14-13 overall and 12-8 in the conference. The Saints fall to 15-13 overall and 11-9 in CCAC play.
The V-Hawks were led in the competition offensively by Carly Drew and Nora Tucker. Drew put up 18 points for the V-Hawks while Tucker added 17 points. Also in double-digits was Kira John with 14 points, shooting 6-6 from the field, and Chloe Auth with 10 points. Defensively, the V-Hawks were led by Pearla Teko-Folly and Kira John. Teko-Folly had five rebounds and three blocks, also adding a steal. John picked up four blocks and four rebounds in her performance over the Saints.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks took an early 8-4 lead
- Scoring from Marley Hughes gave the V-Hawks a 13-7 cushion
- Carly Drew and Kira John combined to bring the lead to 17-9
- The Saints fought within two, but a three from Drew closed out the first quarter 20-15 in favor of the V-Hawks
- Scoring from Pearla Teko-Folly and Chloe Auth extended the V-Hawk lead to 27-15
- The V-Hawks held their lead through most of the quarter
- The V-Hawks had a 40-30 lead going into halftime
- Out of the half, the Saints rallied within four points
- The V-Hawks responded, going up 47-39 on a Nora Tucker three
- The V-Hawks had a ten point lead at 60-50
- Going into the fourth quarter, the V-Hawks were up 60-52
- The Saints fought within three at 64-61
- Scoring from Carly Drew, Nora Tucker, and Pearla Teko-Folly gave the V-Hawks a 76-61 lead with 15 unanswered points
- The V-Hawks held their lead, and the final score came from Abby Ward
- The V-Hawks claimed a dominant 86-72 victory
