V-Hawks Outshoot Crimson Wave
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team conquered in their Saturday afternoon matchup with Calumet 95-42. The V-Hawks rise to 8-0 (CCAC 2-1) while the Crimson Wave fall to 2-9 (CCAC 0-4).
Macy Stellner opened the game with back to back threes before finding Nicole Johnson for the layup. The V-Hawks continued to put the pressure on, Johnson drawing a foul and making both free throws from the line. Pearla Teko-Folly becomes a force on defense grabbing numerous rebounds, before Taylor Jacobson would find her for a jumper. With only 13 seconds remaining in the quarter Marley Hughes would pull up from three for a 28-6 lead.
Johnson would drain a three quick in the second quarter before Carly Drew would back it up with another before following it up with a layup shortly after. Holding the Crimson Wave to single digits Nora Tucker would make a series of free throws before ending the half.
Drawing fouls on both side of the ball the V-Hawks would continue to make free throws including Stellner. Teko-Folly would remain an offensive threat with layups from within the paint including off her own rebound. Carly Drew would close out the quarter with the final seven points.
Nora Tucker would continue to carry the energy with the four opening points. Freshman, Vanessa Wright taking to the floor with a combination of a layup and free throws. With a minute remaining Zuzanna Pacak would drain a three before Kira John would draw a foul closing out the game.
Drew led the V-Hawks with 16 points and Teko-Folly had 10 points. Amelia Scorsone led the Crimson Wave with 12.
The V-Hawks outshot from the floor 45.6-27.5% and from three 34.6-14.3%, while outrebounding 61-37.
The V-Hawks return to action Friday, December 13, as they host UW-Superior in a non-conference matchup.
