V-Hawks Down Knights
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team came out on top in a nonconference matchup with Martin Luther College on Tuesday night 80-59. The V-Hawks rise to 7-2 (1-1 CCAC).
Viterbo came out strong, quickly establishing their dominance. Lauryn Goettl showcased her presence in the paint, contributing with crucial rebounds and a smooth layup midway through the quarter. Olivia Lambrigtsen added to the offensive momentum with her sharp shooting, including a three-pointer that further widened the gap. Carley Drew's energy off the bench was palpable, knocking down a key three-pointer in the final seconds of the quarter. Viterbo finished the period with a commanding 22-11 lead.
Viterbo continued to build on their lead with balanced contributions. Goettl was a force under the basket, scoring consistently and providing second-chance opportunities with her offensive rebounding. Lambrigtsen displayed her versatility, connecting on a mid-range jumper and facilitating with an assist to Nicole Johnson. Tucker made her presence felt with a timely jumper and smart defensive plays, helping Viterbo stay in control. The V-Hawks entered halftime ahead 43-31, fueled by their teamwork and relentless effort.
The third quarter saw Viterbo maintain their momentum, with Goettl and Lambrigtsen leading the charge. Goettl's agility and accuracy in the post resulted in several key baskets, while Lambrigtsen added another layup and provided steady defensive pressure. Tucker knocked down a clutch three-pointer and showed her court vision with a perfectly timed assist. Drew's perimeter shooting and hustle plays were critical in maintaining the offensive tempo, as Viterbo ended the quarter with a comfortable 64-50 lead.
Viterbo closed the game in style, outscoring Martin Luther 16-9 in the final quarter. Goettl continued to dominate the paint, scoring a layup and pulling down critical rebounds. Tucker hit another three-pointer, cementing her impact on both ends of the court. Drew's energy remained high, as she knocked down a late three-pointer and played stellar defense to disrupt Martin Luther's rhythm. Lambrigtsen capped off her night with a graceful layup, reflecting her all-around contribution to the team's success.
Goettl led the V-Hawks with 19 points and Tucker had 11 points. Mya Morris led the Knights with 19.
The V-Hawks outshot from the floor 46.4-34.4% though the Knights outshot from three 39.1-34.6%. The V-Hawks outrebounded 39-38 and committed nine turnovers to MLC's 18.
The V-Hawks return to action Saturday, December 7, as they head on the road to Calumet.
