V-Hawks Drop Four on the Road

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- The V-Hawk softball team traveled to Iowa this weekend to compete in four competitions. They faced off against Dordt and Mount Marty on Friday night, followed by a pair of games against Northwestern and Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday. The V-Hawks came away from the Dordt Tournament with four losses, despite their efforts. 

AGAINST DORDT

The V-Hawks held the game close for most of the game, but the Dordt Defenders were able to run away with 11 runs in the sixth inning. Alexis Watson, Gwendolyn Schnider, and Mia Weithaus each pitched for the V-Hawks. Schnider put up an errorless performance, but allowed five runs. Alexis Watson allowed seven runs, while Mia Weithaus allowed three. From the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Alexis Watson and Elie Klar. Watson got one run, two hits, and one RBI in her three at-bats. Watson got two hits and two RBIs thorugh her three at-bats. Other hits came from Sydnie Newell, Natalie Martin, and Marissa Carter-Olson

AGAINST MOUNT MARTY

Mount Marty exploded, scoring the first thirteen runs of the game within the first two innings. The only run for the V-Hawks came on a Rylee Koeller double that ran in Ava Anderson. Rylee Koeller led for the V-Hawks at the plate with two hits and one RBI in three at-bats. The only other hit of the game came from Makella Jacobs. From the mound, Mia Weithaus allowed the fewest runs. She only allowed one run through two innings. Sydnie Newell and Gwendolyn Schnider each piched one inning. 

AGAINST #17 NORTHWESTERN

Northwestern scored the first ten runs of the game throughout seven innings. The V-Hawks were able to hold off the Red Raiders through the first two innings, but at the top of the third, Northwestern put up two runs. The only scoring from the V-Hawks came from Rylee Koeller again on a single that ran in two runners, Ava Anderson and Elie Klar. Alexis Watson had the most hits on the game with two. Other hits came from Grace Elton, Marissa Carter-Olson, and Elie Klar. Through five innings of pitching, Alexis Watson allowed seven runs. Mia Weithaus pitched for one inning and allowed three runs. 

AGAINST DAKOTA WESLEYAN

The V-Hawks took the early lead against Dakota Wesleyan, scoring three runs in the top of the second. Dakota Wesleyan responded, scoring the final nine runs of the game through the sixth inning. Scoring came on three different plays. The first run was scored on an Ava Anderson sac fly, running in Elie Klar. Makayla Nortman picked up an RBI on a ground out with Alexis Watson scoring. The final scoring came from Rylee Koeller. Koeller singled, picking up an RBI with Courtney Denton scoring. Koeller led the game with three hits from four at-bats. Grace Elton and Elie Klar each had two hits, while Makayla Nortman and Courtney Denton each had one. Mia Weithaus pitched 3.1 innings, giving up four runs. Sydnie Newell pitched 2.1, giving up five runs.

The V-Hawks are returning to play next week as they head to Tucson, Arizona to compete in the Tucson Invitational Games. Throughout six days of competition, they will play in 10 games. Information will be online as available.
