V-Hawks Claim First Win Over Tigers in Program History
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks hosted the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene this weekend here in La Crosse, Wis. Through the game, the V-Hawks took the 3-1 victory, defeating the Tigers for the first time in program history. With the win, the V-Hawks improve to 3-11 overall and 2-1 in CCAC competition. The Tigers drop to 5-10 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Offensively, the V-Hawks were led by Styrk Myhre. Styrk put up 12 kills on 18 swings without a single error. His performance led to a 0.667 hitting percentage and is a new career-high for the sophomore. Caleb Koza, Logan Amdur, and Ethan Davis each added seven kills as well. From the set, Logan Amdur led with 19 assists, while Roman Rzesutko addedd 17 assists and 11 digs for a double-double. Daxton Marschall led in the back court with 15 digs, while Styrk Myhre defensively impressed in the front court with seven blocks in just four sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks took an early lead in the first set 9-6. A series of short runs by the V-Hawks forced an Olivet Nazarene timeout at 17-11 in favor of the V-Hawks. The V-Hawks got up 19-11 out of the timeout, but the Tigers responded with an 8-0 run to tie the set at 19-19. Three points for the V-Hawks, marked by a service ace from Logan Amdur, gave the V-Hawks the 22-19 lead. The V-Hawks closed out set one on a kill from Owen Collitt to secure a 25-21 victory.
- The V-Hawks took the lead again early in the second set with an ace from Roman Rzeszutko. Olivet Nazarene got the lead at 12-10, but the V-Hawks strung together a 8-0 run with kills from Logan Amdur and Ethan Davis and three blocks from Styrk Myhre to take the 18-12 lead. The V-Hawks held onto their lead and extended it. The V-Hawks ran away with set two on a kill from Riley Connors, winning 25-18.
- In set three, the V-Hawks struggled early, going down 9-6. The Tigers put up a 7-0 run, and the V-Hawks went down 16-7. The V-Hawks were down 22-12 late in the set when they put together a 5-0 run. The run consisted of kills from Styrk Myhre, Ethan Davis, and Max Dugan. Despite their efforts, the V-Hawks fell in set three 25-17.
- In the fourth set, the V-Hawks took the 3-0 lead early with two blocks from Styrk Myhre. The teams were tied at 12-12. The Tigers went in a 3-0 run to take the 15-12 lead midway through the set. The V-Hawks continued fighting and eventually flipped the lead to the V-Hawks favor at 17-16. The set was tied at 19-19, but a 5-0 run for the V-Hawks put the V-Hawks at match point. The V-Hawks took the win on a kill from Styrk Myhre at 25-20.

The V-Hawks return to action on Tuesday. They will compete in a triangular competition against RV Governors State and Dordt. The V-Hawks play at 1pm and 6pm.
