V-Hawks Fall in First Tournament Matchup

JOLIET, Ill. – The Viterbo University Baseball team fell to Olivet Nazarene in their first game of the conference tournament 8-3.  The V-Hawks fall to 24-24 (CCAC 19-13).

After the V-Hawks would fall behind in the second inning, they would tie up the game in the bottom of the fifth with a three run inning. The Tigers would respond with a single run in the sixth followed by a four run inning in the top of the ninth sealing the Viterbo loss.

Jake Ouweneel would pitch the first six innings on the mound with five strikeouts, letting up four runs in 11 hits for the loss. In relief Cale Beckman, Bryant Koenig, and Nolan Hines would each pitch a single inning collectively skriking out four batters though Hines would let up the final four runs in three hits.

At the plate Brett Stuessel would collect four hits, while Spencer Hans would take one and two RBIs and Xaveir Gilmore would grab a hit and an RBI also taking a sacrifice.

The V-Hawks will return to action Thursday, May 1 at 4pm to face the loser of the Saint Xavier-South Bend matchup.
