V-Hawks Fight for Split in Series

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Viterbo University split on day two of their road series with Saint Xavier University. The V-Hawks rise to 15-16 (CCAC 10-10), while the Cougars sit at 18-16 (CCAC 11-7).  

Viterbo 4, Saint Xavier 3

The Cougars took the lead early with a strong third inning, though the V-Hawks would recover in the top of the sixth with a three-run inning clinching the win.

Anthony Sanchez would lead the V-Hawks from the mound for all seven innings, striking out five batters, allowing seven hits and three runs for the win.

At the plate, Ryder Mortensen with two hits would smash a double, Gavin Daniel would collect an RBI, followed by Spencer Hans, and Dane Mediger.

Viterbo 1, Saint Xavier 3

The V-Hawks would tie up the game in the top of the fifth though the Cougars would score two more runs taking the win.

Starting on the mound, Cale Beckman would pitch six innings and throw six strikeouts, allowing five hits and three runs for the loss. Jomar Guzman would finish the game in relief allowing two hits.

Brett Stuessel in the field would turn three double plats, Hans with two, Mortensen, Mediger, and Beckman also contributing. On base Hunter Hess would collect a stolen base along side Matt Monaghan.

The V-Hawks return to action Tuesday April, 8 at Upper Iowa.
