PAPILLION, Neb. -- The No. 5-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team turned in one of their most complete performances of the season, dominating Viterbo University from the opening whistle in a 4-1 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bruins improve to 13-1-2 following the win while Viterbo drops to 3-5-4.
Matias Daniel-Doren wasted no time putting the Bruins on the board, scoring in just the fourth minute. He jumped on a failed clearance attempt and sent home a low shot from 15 yards out for an early 1-0 lead.
Kyi Nicholson doubled the lead in the 14th minute on an intended cross. He carried the ball into the box and looked to send the ball across the goal mouth but the ball was deflected at the point of contact and wafted over the suddenly-out-of-position keeper and inside the back post.
Bellevue sat on that two-goal advantage until Edwin Cisneros drew a penalty in the 75th minute after being hauled down from behind by a V-Hawk defender. Cisneros took the PK himself and bested the goalkeeper for his fifth tally of the season.
Alexis Rangel took advantage of a defensive misplay by Bellevue, racing towards goal and sending an initial shot on frame that was saved off the line by Fletcher Hedge. Rangel followed up his initial attempt and knocked in a second-effort for an 84th minute strike.
Jeremiah Hteh put an exclamation mark on the performance in the 88th minute, one-timing home a shot from 10 yards after Alvaro Jacinto whipped a pass along the ground to him.
Taariq Ganga made a pair of saves before being lifted for Kaden Simpson in the 79th minute. Peter Kolenyo, making his first start of the year for Viterbo, totaled nine saves in the losing effort.
Bellevue out-paced Viterbo in shots (21-5), shots on goal (9-4), and corner kicks (7-1).
The Bruins close out the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. in Bartlesville, Okla. when they take on former MCAC-rival No. 2 Oklahoma Wesleyan University (13-1-0).
