Chavez' Big Day Ends Marathon Day
La Crosse, WI - An anticpated long day, became even longer for the Eagles on Wednesday. Making the long trip to Viterbo to take on the V-Hawks in a double header is no easy task. But when the game times were moved up an hour due to potential weather, it made that wake up call even earlier. Then the games started.
In game one, the Eagles got out to an early lead on a Tatyana Chavez RBI double in the first inning. A 6th inning two-run homerun by Chavez gave Judson a 3-2 lead heading into the final inning.
But, a late rally by Viterbo forced extra innings pushing back that departure time.
Game one would go until the 13th inning, nearly another full game, when the V-Hawks ultimately took home the tight contest on a two-out RBI single to win 4-3.
For the game, Chavez went 3-6 with three RBIs. Cynthia Alvillar had two hits and two runs scored.
In the circle, Haley Slaymaker had a strong effort going six innings, striking out 7, and only allowing two runs.
Over an hour past the scheduled start time, Judson dug in for game two, and quickly again struck first with two runs in the opening inning thanks to another two-run home run by Chavez.
JU kept swinging with a third inning home run by Alvillar, her third of the season. Chavez took a trip around the bases once again in the fifth inning for her third of the day, her first three long balls on the season.
To brake things open in the 7th inning, Chavez capped the day with a bases clearing triple. For the game, she went 3-3 with 3 runs scored and 6 RBIs. She wound up hitting for the cycle with her six hits across the two games.
Ari Esqueda had a pair of hits in both games for Judson.
Katherine Hrinda pitched the complete game for her fifth win on the season.
The ride home was heavily delayed, but at least the long drive was eased a bit by a hard earn split in the win column.
The Eagles will have a quick turnaround when they get back on the bus Thursday to travel to Clarke.
