Blue Hawks fall to league leading Viterbo, set up show down with Waldorf

La Crosse, Wis. – North Star Athletic Association leader Viterbo University was too much to handle, as Dickinson State fell, 3-0, on Friday.

The unbeaten V-Hawks raced out to a 2-0 match lead thanks to 25-10 and 25-14 wins in the first two sets of the match. The third set was closer, with DSU leading as late as 8-7, but the nationally ranked hosts were too powerful and they pulled away for a 25-20 win in set three.

McKenzie Moser and Makyah Albrecht led the Blue Hawks with seven and six kills, respectively, but DSU was held to just .093 hitting on the night. Moser also led the team in digs with six, tied with teammate Bailey Pearcy who had a team high 20 assists.

The Blue Hawks will now turn their attention to Saturday's season finale against Waldorf University that will serve as a win-and-you're-in game for both teams. If Dickinson State wins they will clinch a berth to the NSAA Conference Tournament, but a loss in less than five sets will knock them out and allow Waldorf to advance. If the match goes five sets, and Waldorf wins, the next tie-breaker will take effect which is points scored in the two matches between the teams. Dickinson State won 29-27, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 16-14 earlier in the season, so they only have a one point cushion to work with, making a win that much more important.
