Mustangs Drop a Pair of Loses to V-Hawks, Fighting Bees

DAVENPORT, Iowa | The Mustangs close out their weekend as they drop a pair of losses after falling to the Viterbo V-Hawks 3-0 and the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees 3-1.  

MATCH ONE

The Mustangs started the final day of the St. Ambrose tournament falling to the V-Hawks in three straight sets 25-19, 25-20, and 25-15. 

Offensively, the Mustangs were led by Mary Kate Bendlage who recorded nine kills in the match, followed by teammates Jenna Brown with eight and Sam Schrage with five kills. The V-Hawks were able to hold the Mustangs to 32 kills in the match. Hailey Hested was able to record 27 assists and 10 digs, with Rylie Mussman adding 25 digs. 

Martina McGrath led the V-Hawks to victory by recording 10 kills and had a .526 hitting percentage in the match. She was followed by Jada Mitchell who recorded 9 kills and a .389 hitting percentage, and Sadie Treptow, also with 9 kills, and a .562 hitting percentage. 

MATCH TWO

The Mustangs took an early lead in the match as they won set one 25-22. The Fighting Bees responded to the Mustangs' early lead and took the next three sets 25-23, 25-23, and 25-14 to win the match 3-1.

Mary Kate Bendlage was the Mustangs' leading attacker as she recorded 14 kills and a .133 hitting percentage to close out the weekend. Jenna Brown was not far behind as she collected 12 kills with a .231 hitting percentage. Hailey Hested was able to collect 35 of the 40 assists recorded in the match. 

The Fighting Bees were led by Mackenzie Grafton who collected 16 kills off a .270 hitting percentage, followed by Alexa Orozco who had 14 kills with a .242 hitting percentage. Ines Marques was able to collect 27 assists in the match. 

The Mustangs will be back on the road Tuesday night as they travel to face Culver-Stockton with first serve starting at 7:00 PM.
