Cougars go 2-1 at V-Hawk Classic

LACROSSE, Wis. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's volleyball team traveled to LaCrosse, Wisconsin this weekend for a 3-matches against Trinity Christian, St. Francis (Ill.), & #5 Viterbo University. The Cougars went 2-1 on the weekend, and played a total of 11 sets.

The Cougars defeated the Trinity Christian Trolls in 3 sets Friday evening with final scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-23. Leading contributors in this match came from Paige Fortkamp, who had 15 kills, 10 assists, 1 service ace, 5 digs & 2 blocks. Alexis Gregory also led on the defensive end with 19 digs, 1 service ace, and 4 assists. Jo Delsing contributed 14 assists as well to lead the Cougar attack. 

On Saturday, the Cougars prepared for two matches, one being against the St. Francis (Ill.) Cougars and the other against the No. 5-Ranked Viterbo University Hawks. USF won the match against St. Francis (Ill.) in 5 sets. Key contributors for this match came from Paige Fortkamp once again, who highlighted the 5 sets with 27 kills, 2 assists, 2 service aces, 4 digs, and one block. Alexis Gregory had 33 digs and Hannah Sweeney was also key in the back court recording 11 digs while Kelby Goldschmeding & Addison Shafer combined for 19 digs as well. Shafer also had 15 kills of her own. Kendal Frey, Kate McMullen, Caroline Jones, and Ellie Ferris all combined for 25 kills too. The Cougars could not be stopped at the net and a driving factor of that came from Jo Delsing & Eliza Madden who combined for 55 assists.

Going into the final match of the weekend, the Cougars had a 2-0 advantage, but fell to the No. 5-Ranked Viterbo Hawks in 3 sets. 

After a very busy weekend, the Cougars are eager to return home this coming Wednesday to host the Grace College Lancers for a 7pm first serve in Hutzell Athletic Center. Admission for the match will be free, but fans and spectators are encouraged to donate to the Breast Cancer Awareness Cause. The Cougars will be supporting in pink, so please wear pink at this match!
