Team Chaplains

A team chaplain is an individual who has a great understanding of the university’s mission and values, a passion for sports, and a desire to be more involved in student life. Team chaplains build relationships with student-athletes in ways such as being present at practices and games, riding team buses en route to competitions, maintaining consistent communication with the team through email, being available to the coach as needed, stepping in as a neutral third party during difficult conversations between coaches and players, etc. They find ways to take their own unique gifts and share them with the team in a way that inspires, empowers, and uplifts. The main goals of a chaplain are to seek to build relationships and be present to the team, model essential core values and the mission of the university, plant seeds to help student-athletes develop a more balanced perspective of life, and demonstrate a true passion for the sport of the team(s) they serve. Over the course of four years, student-athletes go through a very transformative journey, and team chaplains are there to assist in each student’s growth.

As a team chaplain, you will help students, coaches, and community members form deeper relationships with themselves, others, and God. The ministry can be extremely rewarding for the athletes you serve, for the coaches and administrators who develop those athletes, and for you, too, as you build relationships and deepen your connection to your community.
