V-Hawks Advance to CCAC Semifinals

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The No. 1 Seed Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team swept No. 8 Trinity Christian (IL) (25-20, 25-15, 25-16) on Tuesday evening in the CCAC conference tournament. The V-Hawks rise to 23-9 (CCAC 15-0) while the Trolls finish their season at 9-23 (CCAC 5-10).

Martina McGrath on a solo kill would propel the V-Hawks into the lead for the first time in the set, before Cailie Kowal would find her again and Maddie Connor once more shortly after. On a five point run Kowal would set up a series for Jada Mitchell and Grae Peyron to capitalize on taking the lead one more. With Mikaela Marquardt on service Sadie Treptow and Martina McGrath would tag team the final four points of set one with a block and three kills.

The V-Hawks would once again be in a battle for the lead early on, Mitchell finding a sweet spot to take the lead. Off an attack Peyron would take the chance and return an attack of her own, hitting successfully and again following a TCC timeout to begin a four point run. Kowal would find Izzy Jahr in prime position and find the kill before a block supported by McGrath. The V-Hawks with only two points left to claim set two, would find Connor setting up Halverson for back to back kills ending the set.

Kenidi McCabe on service would claim an ace opening the final set, before Connor would find Treptow for the kill. With the conference tournament on the line Peyron would find a perfect spot once again for the kill set up from McCabe, before posting up with Mitchell for a block. McGrath striking down match point off a free ball would seal the advancement to the semifinal round of the conference tournament for Viterbo.

McGrath led the V-Hawks with 12 kills, while Connor supplied 20 assists and Kowal with 18. McCabe took 10 digs, Aolani Cannon led the Trolls with seven kills.

The V-Hawks return to the court Thursday, November 14 as they host St. Ambrose (IA) for the CCAC Semifinal round.
