V-Hawks Take Third Place at Norse Invitational

DECORAH, Iowa - The Viterbo University Women's Outdoor Track and Field team competed at the Luther College (Iowa) Norse Invitational on Saturday. The V-Hawks finished third place out of 11 scoring teams with 131.70 points.

Lana Yeakel secured a trio of gold medals on the day, finishing with the best 100 meter dash time, 12.61, the best long jump, 5.26m (17-03.25), and was a part of the best 4x100 meter relay team, 48.63, alongside Claudia Schunk, Breanna Ihde, and Ashley Veronen.

Ihde added a pair of individual podium finishes to her relay performance, finishing second in the 200-meter dash at 26.10 seconds, and third in the 400 with a time of 59.47.

Alexi Stephani also collected an individual silver and bronze, with a 9.97m (32-08.50) triple jump for second place and a 1.53m (5-00.25) high jump for third.

Schunk's 13.03 time in the 100-meter dash earned her second place behind her fellow V-Hawk.

Viterbo would dominate in the Pole Vault as Bailey Nuutinen took second with a height of 3.35m (10-11.75), Tess Durscher took third, 3.20m (10-06.00), and Olivia Wingo tied for fourth, clearing 2.90m (9-06.25).

Durscher also took third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:11.17, Grace Peyron recorded the third best long jump with a leap of 5.13m (16-10.00), and Anya Hirsch claimed the bronze in the 1500, finishing in 5:01.68.

Payton Dryden finished fourth in both the discus, 38.03m (124-09), and the hammer toss, 41.83m (137-03). Ashley Veronen was also fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.02.

Miranda Kendall cleared 1.50m (4-11.00) in the high jump for fifth place, while three V-Hawks had sixth place finishes, Brenna McDonough in the 5000, 19:06.71, Emma Johnson in the 100-meter hurdles, 16.18, and Bernadette Frisch in the steeplechase, 13:48.58.

The V-Hawks return to action on Friday, April 21 at the UWL Phil Etsen Challenge.
