BILLINGS, Mont. - The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team kicked their season off in the start of the series of games in Montana yesterday. The V-Hawks faced Rocky Mountain College and lost 60-83 in their first game.
The game began with two made free throws by Calette Lockington and was very close in the first quarter, ending at 17-16 in favor of Rocky Mountain. However, Rocky Mountain outscored Viterbo 21-11 to go into the locker room up 38-27 at the half. Viterbo put up its most points in a quarter in the third, posting 21 points with five different V-Hawks scoring. However, Rocky Mountain widened their lead in the fourth quarter after a late 9-0 run to ultimately secure the win.
Brook Becker led Viterbo in points with 15 (6-8 FGM-A) and rebounds with seven. Sophie Leinfelder contributed 12 points for the V-Hawks. Chyna Young and Ellie Hoesley each tallied six boards in the game. Viterbo shot 35.6 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from behind the arc. They outshot Rocky Mountain at the charity stripe with a 56.5 free throw percentage, compared to 33.3 percent, respectively.
