CROWN POINT, Ind. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team lost 12-1 to Governors State University (Ind.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference battle on Wednesday afternoon. The V-Hawks fall to 5-3-5 (2-1-2 CCAC), while the Jaguars improve to 3-8-1 (2-2-1 CCAC).
Sebastian Acosta would find Nicolas Lopez at 14:41 to give the V-Hawks the early lead, and Ernesto Ascenzo would save the Jaguars first three shots on goal before they tied the match at 29:23. Alfie Gyurkovits and Louison Poilpot each had shots on goal before the half expired, but neither reached the net.
Ascenzo earned another save to start the second, this time on a penalty kick by GSU. He would continue his defensive efforts, recording six more saves before Conner Erdmann got VU back on the offensive with a shot on goal in the 70th minute. John Gonzalez ended the tie for the Jaguars at 74:54, and the V-Hawks would not manage another on target shot for the rest of the game.
Lopez led the V-Hawks with five shots and Erdmann added three. Gonzalez had a match-high six shots. Ascenzo posted a career-high 12 saves, while Marcol Salom Chandre had four.
The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 14 as they host Indiana University-Northwest.
