Calumet Overpowers Viterbo

Whitting, Ind. – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team lost a CCAC battle to Calumet College of Saint Joseph 73-78. The V-Hawks fall to 3-7 (1-2 CCAC) while the Crimson Wave improve to 5-2 (1-2 CCAC).

Carson Koepnick opened the scoring for Viterbo with a three from Lydell King, before the Crimson Wave would go on an 11 point run ended by a layup driven in by King. With a 14 point deficit Braden Crubel would drive, scoring the layup drawing the foul and completing the and one with a made free throw. King would drain a three before Jack Voigt would drawn another and one for the V-Hawks. Struggling to remain ball control the V-Hawks would slowly close the lead, King drawing a foul from three and making all free throws before heading into the half, down by 12.

A dunk by Colin Adams would energize the V-Hawks, before Voigt would drive making crucial layups for Viterbo. Kole Johnson's and one would bring CCSJ's lead to only five points, backed up by a layup by King. Koepnick's back to back layups bringing the V-Hawks within reach wouldn't be enough to take over the lead.

King led the V-Hawks with 16 and six assists, Voigt and Koepnick followed with 11 points each. Colby Wiggins scored 26 for the Crimson Wave

The V-Hawks were outshot from the floor 47.2% to 42.36 %, from three 34.6-19%, and outrebounded 47-37.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, December 14, at home to host Olivet Nazarene.
