Bullpen Faulters in V-Hawk Loss

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Baseball team fell in a nonconference double header against Clarke University Tuesday afternoon.  The V-Hawks fall to 19-19 (CCAC 14-10) while the Pride rise to 17-22.

Viterbo 6, Clarke 16

The Pride would capitalize on a rough opening for the V-Hawks with 11 of their 16 runs coming with less than an out. The V-Hawks would attempt to battle back in the bottom of the third with a homer and a group of runs in the fifth though would fall short.

Adam Olson would take the loss on the mound with one strikeout, in relief a series of bullpen pitchers would come in for an inning each, totaling three more strikeouts and nine additional hits.

At the plate Derick Cossio would lead with a three run homer, followed by Spencer Hans with a homer and an extra RBI. In the field Dane Mediger, Matt Monaghan, Hans, and Brett Stuessel would turn a pair of double plays.

Viterbo 8, Clarke 9

The V-Hawks would start out game two stronger taking a one run lead in the bottom of the first before see sawing for the lead inning after inning until three runs in the top of the sixth would end the scoring for the game.

On the mound for two innings Jomar Guzman would let up four runs and seven hits. With four pitchers in relief only a single strikeout would occur, Joe Nelan would take the loss with three final runs in two hits.

Xavier Gilmore leading from the batters box with a double, triple, home run and two RBIs, Stuessel, Cody Wells, and Cossio also collected two a piece. On base Stuessel and Monaghan would claim a base.

The V-Hawks return to action Friday April 118, at Saint Xavier.
