Baseball Closes Out Season Opening Trip With 13-5 Loss to Viterbo
JOPLIN, Mo. – The Roosevelt University baseball team closed out its season opening trip to Joplin, Mo. with a 13-5 loss to Viterbo University (Wis.) on Monday, February 21 at Joe Becker Stadium. The loss dropped the Lakers record to 1-3 to begin the season.
Viterbo took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on two hits, but the Lakers answered with a run of their own after Daniel Gutierrez led off with a base hit, stole second, advanced to third on an error, and scored on a Nick McAlister ground out.
The V-Hawks came back with four runs on three hits and an error in the top of the second inning to take a 5-1 advantage. Roosevelt cut the margin to 5-2 with a solo run in the third inning when Jesus Gomez led off with a single and advanced to third on a Gutierrez double, scoring on a Trevor Heinlein base hit.
However, Viterbo blew open the game with four runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth inning and win the non-conference contest 13-5.
