Brunson's late goal gives Bees victory
Kaitlyn Brunson's goal with just over two minutes remaining propelled St. Ambrose to a 2-1 victory over Viterbo Tuesday afternoon. This was part of a two-goal second half rally for the Bees.
Viterbo (7-4-5, 5-3-2 CCAC) was able to get on the scoreboard first. They scored in the 8th minute, and would carry a 1-0 advantage into halftime. Despite being down at the half, SAU (11-4-0, 9-1-0 CCAC) had a 6-2 advantage in shots.
In the second half, the Bees recorded 14 shots and faced just one shot from Viterbo. Finally, in the 70th minute, the Bees were rewarded with a goal. Taylor DeSplinter scored the goal to tie the game SAU. After the equalizer, St. Ambrose continued to pile on the pressure by recording 10 shots in a 17-minute span. In the 87th minute, Brunson scored from an Isabella Crawford assist to give the Bees a 2-1 victory. Rachel Willette made one save to earn the win. The Bees have now recorded eight wins in a row.
SAU is next in action on Saturday against Governors State in Crown Point, Ind., in the CCAC regular-season finale.
